“Preserving the Forest for Future Generations”
Tree Planting Initiative – Sri Dalada Maligawa
The Valuable Tree Planting Initiative is carried out within the strictly protected Green Arena of the Udawatta Forest, adjoining the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. This project focuses on strengthening the forest ecosystem through the planting of carefully selected valuable and indigenous tree species. All activities are conducted without disturbing the natural environment, ensuring that the forest remains intact while supporting long-term ecological sustainability.
Benefits from One Plant
Benefits
Food Security
The trees will bear fruits, some that will be edible immediately and others that can become edible through processing, ensuring food resources over time.
Economic development
The trees' fruits and the products derived from their transformation can be traded in local networks, offering income opportunities.
CO₂ Absorption
During its life cycle, each tree will absorb CO₂. The trees that you plant can offset your emissions.
Environmental protection
The trees are planted in agroforestry systems that favor the virtuous interaction between the different species and their positive impact on the environment and on the land.
